Our Story

Supporting Those Who Protect Us

In February 2016, tragedy struck the Park County community when three sheriff’s deputies were involved in a shootout with an armed individual. One deputy suffered non-life-threatening injuries, another was critically wounded, and one hero made the ultimate sacrifice. In that moment, our community came together, realizing the urgent need to support those who risk their lives for our safety.

That moment sparked the creation of the Responder Relief Foundation—a nonprofit dedicated to standing by first responders not just in times of crisis, but throughout their entire service. Our mission is to ensure that those who dedicate their lives to protecting us receive the support, recognition, and resources they need—both on and off duty.

First responders face incredible challenges daily, including PTSD, mental health struggles, and high rates of suicide. In 2020, we launched our "Motivation to Inspire" initiative, expanding our efforts to provide mental health resources aiming to break the stigma surrounding mental health struggles in the first responder community. We recognize that the well-being of first responders is essential—not just in moments of emergency, but throughout their careers and beyond.

We also believe in investing in the future of emergency response. To ensure our communities continue to receive the lifesaving services they need, we have expanded our mission to include EMS scholarships. These scholarships provide financial support to individuals pursuing careers in emergency medical services, empowering the next generation of first responders and strengthening the foundation of public safety.

Now, we need your help. Join us in honoring, supporting, and uplifting our first responders—not just in their time of need, but every step of the way. Whether through a donation, volunteering, or spreading the word, you can make a lasting impact on those who dedicate their lives to protecting us.

Together, we can ensure that no first responder faces hardship alone, and that those who serve us receive the support they deserve—every day of their service and beyond.
